Saving Baby Neurons: The Science of Getting Older AND Better!
This is my signature talk on how the latest research in aging and neuro-science shows we need to stop thinking about “getting older” as a negative. Instead, we should recognize that with the average longevity close to 80 years, half of us will live longer, many past 100. So how can we shift our mindset from “getting older” to “living longer” with the emphasis on living? We’ll starting from the new understanding in neuro-science that our brains are not fixed in childhood, or our teens, as previously thought, but continue to generate new neurons for as long as we live. We now know that these new neurons die off, unless they are put to use within a short window of time. The rest of the talk explores science-backed ways we can maximize the number of “baby neurons” that survive and get incorporated into our brains to keep us thriving throughout life. My talks are highly interactive, involving the audience in Q&A, exercises, and movement throughout.
